Master Yi earns its third win of the Unleashed metagame while Diana drops her fourth finals.
Top 8 results and more in this final tournament report of the third Riftbound expansion!

The Hartford Regional Qualifier crowned Master Yi, now the only legend with 3 regional wins in the Unleashed metagame, on Sunday! Here is the tournament report and the latest decks from the event.

Tournament Report

The last regional tournament of the Unleashed set is in the books, ending the most entertaining expansion in Riftbound from a competitive standpoint. Heading into this tournament, we knew which legends to expect at the top, but not which one was going to win it all. We also knew about a dozen legends had a shot at being a top 8 inclusion, but there are typically only two or three open spots available alongside top performers.

Those global metrics happened, with Master Yi and Diana representing half the top cut while posting some of the best win rates across the Hartford Regional Qualifier. These two battled in the finals, with Master Yi emerging as the sole legend with 3 regional wins in Unleashed, while Diana lost her fourth finals of this set. We also had that surprise top 8 performer with Lux reaching the quarter finals for the first time with her new combo build from Tianjin. Joining them were Ezreal, Annie and Pyke, legends who already had a top 8, but also many missed attempts.

Overall, the Hartford qualifier has been a good representation of how Unleashed evolved over the past two months. Irelia lost some momentum in June, especially the Western metagame, so her top 16 isn't a shocker. Azir was the inconsistent legend among Tier 1 contenders, but had two regionals wins under its belt. Again, a top 16 finish isn't at all surprising. Master Yi had some doubters after two top 16 finishes in May, but has been on a roll over the past five regionals, represented in every top 8 while winning two tournaments. Last, Diana could have been the Draven of this set, but her knack for losing the most important match will leave her with a 1-4 record in regional tournament finals.

This mix of consistent and unreliable performers exists in every tier of the competitive rankings. Indeed, we can see it just looking at the legends in Hartford top 8. In the western tournament, Annie slowly progressed one tournament at a time, starting with a Top 32 in Sydney to go back to back top 8 in Utrecht and Hartford. Ezreal started and ended this set with a top 8, posting a flurry of top 32 finishes in between.

On the other end, Pyke will end this set with two top 8 finishes, but as many runs stopped in the Top 256. The same could be said for Lux, who looked consistent with mostly top 64 or 32 finishes, until she collapsed in Tianjin with a top 512 finish, only to come back with a vengeance and make it to the top 8 in Hartford.

Looking at statistics, decklists and all the data we can find will always help us in some way. Yet, sometimes, there is no beating raw skill earned through countless hours of playing the game or watching others. Unleashed felt this way, and that's exactly how I want Riftbound to be.
