Tianjin Regional Qualifier Results – Top 8, Best-of Decks, Metagame, Popularity & Conversion Rates!

Master Yi becomes the first legend in Unleashed to win 2 regional tournaments !
Yet, Tianjin will remember the performances of Rek'Sai, Pyke or Lux first and foremost !

Depending on your opinion about the Chinese metagame, you will either consider the Tianjin Regional as the weirdest tournament in Unleashed, or a gold mine of decks to test and reconsider.

On the winners side, we find two Rek'Sai in the top 8, joined by a Pyke for a sudden surge or Fury legends among top competitors. Lux in the top 32 with an infinite loop list is the talk of social media, while Ahri also made it that far without making much moise. In the top 64, we also find a flurry of legends typically ranked a notch below, such as the new Master Yi, Lucian, Darius or Jax.

When that many legends overperform, others naturally lose some momentum. LeBlanc failed to reach the top 32 again after a disappointing performance in Vancouver last week, but is nothing compared to Sivir. Indeed, the Battle Mistress lost in the top 256 in Tianjin, a complete anomaly after recording three top 8 out of four regional tournaments. Her only failure to reach the quarterfinals was in Xi'an two weeks ago. I would say the Chinese metagame doesn't suit Sivir, but Miss Fortune managed a top 32 finish while both legends started the tournaments with 17 players at the helm, so the environment can't be the only one at fault. Azir also dropped the ball with a top 128 as its best performance in Tianjin. After a win in the previous Chinese regional, and a top 8 in Vancouver to confirm its ability to fight with the best, the Emperor of the Sands lost a ton of momentum in this one.

Other interesting legends to look at after Vancouver are Rengar, who made it to the top 32 with the same list used to almost win in Canada. This is significant gap in performance, but it is good to see the list being recognized as the best one worldwide. Vex came back from its ugly top 128 last week with a top 16 in Tianjin, reminding us it can still perform on the big stage. Fiora recorded a second top 16 after her first last week. This time, it was a Midrange build rather than Aurora, which seems to fit the Chinese metagame a lot more.

At the end of it all, a legend from the big 3 won once again. In a finals against Diana, Master Yi became the first legend in Unleashed with 2 regionals wins, both in the Chinese metagame. After back to back top 8 misses in Sydney and then Xi'an, Master Yi started to look a bit too linear to be a dominant legend. Diana recorded a win and a finals over the past two regional events, but the Wuju Bladesman is a close second, with a semi-finals in Vancouver and now the Tianjin win. The third member of that trio, Irelia, did what she does best in Riftbound: record another pair of top 8 spots. More than enough to keep her status among dominant legends, but now almost a month removed from her sole big win in Unleashed.

The Xi'an regional started a new cycle in the Riftbound metagame, and unexpected performances keep happening ever since. Tianjin should go down as the most intriguing of them all due to its mix of average performers transforming into top 8 candidates while those expected to fight for those spots ended their run in Day 1.

Utrecht, the sixth regional qualifier tournament of this set, is less than a week away. Except for the top trio of performers, the Riftbound metagame still looks wide open, one good build away from another unexpected cinderella story.
