Vancouver Regional Qualifier Results – Top 8 & Best-of Decks, Metagame, Popularity, Win & Conversion Rates!

Diana takes down her first Regional Qualifier against a surprise finalist! Check out the decks and data about the Vancouver Regional in this article.

The Vancouver Regional Qualifier has wrapped up over the weekend! Here is the tournament report and the latest decks from the event.

Tournament Report

Just like we saw it happen in China last week, the Unleashed metagame seems to have solved the Aurora problem without Riot stepping in. Indeed, even if Sivir reached the top 8 in Vancouver, the Battle Mistress had the worse conversion rate among top performing legends. Miss Fortune and Poppy, the other two solid performers built around Aurora ended their run earlier, losing in top 32 and 64 respectively.

Finally, the best performers in the Body domain were not using the 9-cost gear. Instead, Rengar and Master Yi managed to reach the top 4 and top 2, alongside an equal or better global win rate than Sivir with midrange builds.

Aurora remains a very strong foundation in Riftbound, but the metagame belongs to midrange, flexible strategies first and foremost.

In that category, Irelia remains the top contender, once again featuring two players in the top 8 alongside the best day 2 conversion rate and a top tier win rate in Vancouver. However, Diana closed the gap in this regional, winning her first large event on the back of an undefeated run from AlanZQ alongside Dhawally losing to the eventual champion in the semi finals.

Both players shared a very similar list, but the two copies of OGN-179 in the champion's list are another proof Aurora decks are important match-ups to win it all. Ahead of the tournament, an important question was: "how could players find a way to balance their deck against both Aurora strategies and the best performers such as Irelia, Master Yi or LeBlanc ?". Diana has a great asset in that regard, with UNL-080 allowing to recycle those situational spells into another card.

Now, we can safely say the Scorn of the Moon has reached her final form.

The other legend I want to discuss is Rengar, a top 64 contender with the potential to push to the top 16 when the stars align or Aurora isn't targeted. In Vancouver, the Las Vegas champion Samdsherman might have shown the world how to build and play the Pridestalker.

Obviously, we could dismiss that performance saying the player was more influential than the legend itself. The conversion rate seems to back up that theory, as Rengar's 16.1% is one of the worst scores among top 32 performers. However, the 55% win rate is top tier, while the list is also different. As a result, Rengar as well might have found its refined build for Unleashed, and could improve if everyone starts copying the finalist's build.

Overall, Vancouver solidified what we saw in Xi'an last week: Aurora can be kept in check, opening for different legends to rise and perform above the expectations we set based on the previous tournaments.

Diana and Rengar clearly seized the opportunity to improve their stock. Azir also proved its win in China was no fluke, with its first top 8 performance in the West.

The metagame is still moving 1 month after the release of Riftbound's third set. What a fantastic competitive environment after a stale Spiritforged metagame.
