Luxury Riftbound Championship Series 1K (Aug 16th) Tournament Report – Top 8 and Analysis

Luxury Gaming hosted an interesting 1k this past week. Find out more about the tournament here!

With the Riftbound Meta Weekly tournament being a 2v2 and Riftlab Trials being absent as we head towards their Clash format, this week was set to be a very quiet week for Riftbound. However, a new tournament entered the mix; this one having a cash prize pool of $1000.

Luxury Gaming hosted their 1k Riftbound tournament and had a cap of 128 players, making it one of the larger tournaments. It seemed to be a resounding success, and was generally enjoyed (though, a controversy did spawn from it). With this, though, we have our third big player in the scene, with Luxury planning on even hosting 5ks in the future.

In this report, we’re going to break down the tournament, as well as the top 8. We’ll go over all of the champions and decks that were played, so you can keep up to date with the happenings. This will also contribute to next week’s tier list update, as we have a lot of tournaments in the coming weekend, compared to it being the sole one last weekend.

Tournament Metagame

Total Players: 128
Kai’Sa: 31 - 24.2%
Master Yi: 22 - 17.2%
Sett: 16 - 12.5%
Viktor: 13 - 10.2%
Leona: 8 - 6.3%
Volibear: 8 - 6.3%
Ahri: 8 - 6.3%
Teemo: 6 - 4.6%
Miss Fortune: 6 - 4.6%
Darius: 4 - 3.1%
Other: 6 - 4.6%

In this tournament, Kai’Sa continues her streak as the most represented Legend, taking up almost a quarter of the metagame. Following behind (at over 10% each) are Master Yi and Sett, after their recent domination in other tournaments has landed them as a fan-favorite pick; meanwhile Viktor falls in popularity to the 4th most represented deck with just 10.2% of the metashare.

Outside of the top-tier, Leona has had a spike in popularity at a 6.3% metashare, after her Top 16 placement in last week’s Riftbound Meta Weekly showcased an anti-meta deck that players are eager to try. Similarly, there seems to be more Volibear and Miss Fortune players this week, at 6.3% and 4.6% respectively, after their surprising Top 8 placements in last week’s tournaments.

Both of our A-tier Heroes, Teemo and Darius, saw little representation in this tournament (at a mere 4.6% and 3.1%) despite being powerful picks into this meta. Obviously, Darius did well by winning the tournament, but it could just be that people don't enjoy playing him. Surprisingly, there seems to be no listed Jinx or Annie entries despite their past popularity.

Top 8

This week, our Top 8 Legend Breakdown consists of four Sett, two Master Yi, one Kai’Sa and one Darius; all decks that have proven themselves worthy of that first place prize. Unsurprisingly after last week’s reign, 25% of Sett players made it through to the top; however so did 25% of Darius players, a worthy opponent into this current metagame.

In the midst of it all, 9.1% of Master Yi players sliced their way through, and only 3.2% of Kai’Sa players managed to battle through the Body hate and come out on top.

1st: Darius by Prismaticism

After many tournaments spent at just a hair’s length away from victory, including player Prismaticism’s 2nd place win with the deck just last week in the Riftlab Trials, Darius finally pushed through and gained his first tournament win.

This deck is based around the gear Baited Hook, which lets you sacrifice a unit to ‘go fishing’ for a higher cost unit, and play it ignoring its cost; many of these units have a Legion or ‘On-play’ ability, such as Spectral Matron, allowing you to combo off and build your board state rapidly for a very low cost.

Darius has a lot of potential as a legend, and this new deck tech might be all he needs to push his way into the main metagame. I think he has a great chance of performing well next week, but we’ll have to see.

2nd: Sett by Kuvira

In second place is the mighty Sett, who saw a massive meta spike last weekend and seems to be continuing that run, taking up half of today’s Top 8. This Sett is piloted by player Kuvira, showcasing a slightly more Aggro take on the Midrange decklist with Hidden Blade, Salvage and Carnivorous Snapvine making their way into the list.

3-4th: Master Yi by Manu

Want to know more about this legend’s unique playstyle? Take a look at our Master Yi Tempo guide for help!

Our first Master Yi deck falls into the semi-finalist bracket, after player Manu narrowly lost out to one of our finalists. This deck is a pretty standard Tempo list, running slightly more Body runes to accompany the Body focused sideboard with Gentlemen’s Duel and Unyielding Spirit.

3-4th: Sett by Robomaster

Player Robomaster directed the second Sett decklist of the tournament into the semi-finals, piloting the Midrange decklist into the top ranks.

5-8th: Sett by tog

In the quarter-finalist bracket is our third Sett, with a Sett Kingpin based decklist. Player tog is no stranger to the Boss, having two prior Top 8 results piloting him, and managed to be the only player left undefeated in the 6 rounds of Swiss prior to the Top 8 cut.

5-8th: Master Yi by Kendall Noimnot

Our second Master Yi Top 8 player Kendall Noimnot is running a similar Tempo-style decklist, with the inclusion of two copies of Sett Brawler in the sideboard, which is an interesting piece of tech I hope will be explored more soon.

5-8th: Kai’Sa by Fr3nk

Check out our Kai’Sa Tempo guide for more details on this deck!

In the quarter-finalist bracket we have our only Kai’Sa entry out of 31 participants, with player Fr3nk pushing their way into the finals through a sea of Sett players, with a standard Tempo decklist with the inclusion of Brynhir Thundersong in the sideboard as some interesting tech.

5-8th: Sett by batatanator

Our last Sett entry is run by batanator, running a pretty standard (but strong) Midrange decklist that’s been very popular within these last two weeks.

Closing Time

Luxury’s 1k seemed pretty successful, and was a great tournament to help support that the current top tiers seem pretty accurate. We’ll go over this in our next tier list update, but for now this feels like the pinnacle of the Riftbound metagame. This weekend, we have both a Riftbound Meta Weekly, as well as the Riftlab Clash tournaments, and so there will be a lot to cover.
