Master Yi – Overview, Strategy, and Key Synergies

Master Yi is the latest beloved League champion to arrive in Riftbound. Find out more about his playstyle here.

Master Yi has tempered his body and sharpened his mind, so that thought and action have become almost as one. Though he chooses to enter into violence only as a last resort, the grace and speed of his blade ensures resolution is always swift. As one of the last living practitioners of the Ionian art of Wuju, Yi has devoted his life to continuing the legacy of his people—scrutinizing potential new disciples with the Seven Lenses of Insight to identify the most worthy among them.

Master Yi is part of the four champions in the Origins: Proving Grounds box set. His affinity with the Body and Calm domains create a mix of solid proactive development and great reactive cards. A combination Master Yi has been using to climb to the top of the competitive metagame, as the legend is widely regarded as the second-best in the game behind Kai'sa.

Master Yi uses its passive ability to occupy a battlefield and hold it for multiple turns in a row unless the opponent spends resources to match the bonus 2 might our sole defender gets. In doing so, Master Yi is able to prolong a match, reach the late-game, and dominate its opponent with fantastic high-cost units.

Due to its ability, Master Yi will rarely look to get multiple units on the same battlefield. While it might look like a weaker line of defense at first, it allows other units to stay safe at the base, ready to take back a lost battlefield. Also, it allows Master Yi to keep some Runes available for its flurry of support spells.

OGS-009 has emerged as a great champion to have next to your deck. Indeed, the card typically represents a surefire way to enter the late game with sizeable unit you can use immediately.
As for the other two cards, they are decent in their own right, but struggles compared to other options available in the game. Indeed, OGS-020 is a more expensive OGN-077, leading to the signature spell being left out of most competitive decks.
The same could be said about OGS-004, a solid card for a budget deck, but unable to rival the likes of OGN-082 or OGN-161 when it comes to late game potential.

Some like to build their deck with OGN-160 in the mix, other value a more tempo based approach. In both instances, these three cards will represent the backbone of a Master Yi deck, built to reach the late game and rely on their sheer power.
Indeed, once you managed to stall early, and the game is now about raw numbers, value, and the ability to impact battlefields proactively, OGN-082 and OGN-161 are a lethal duo. As for OGN-075, the card won't be as impactful to contest battlefield, but will ensure you don't run out of resources.

Big units would be nothing without a good support system, and green cards might be the best in that regard. Indeed, for just one rune, Calm legends have access to a flurry of fantastic cards.
OGN-046 was designed for OGS-019, as both share the same condition. OGN-043 lets you remove an opposing unit from a battlefield, either to conquer it without a fight, or to edge the upcoming showdown. Last, OGN-045 will force the opponent to constantly think twice before committing a spell while you have one rune available.
