Luxanna Crownguard hails from Demacia, an insular realm where magical abilities are viewed with fear and suspicion. Able to bend light to her will, she grew up dreading discovery and exile, and was forced to keep her power secret, in order to preserve her family's noble status. Nonetheless, Lux's optimism and resilience have led her to embrace her unique talents, and she now covertly wields them in service of her homeland.
One of League of Legends' most iconic mages, Lux, arrives to Riftbound in the Origins: Proving Grounds box set. In the domains of Mind and Order, she is a spell-based control champion, contrasting heavily with the other Mind/Order champion in Viktor. She wants to cast big spells to control the board and win the game, which plays more into Mind than Order, but uses Order units like Shen, Kinkou to have a commanding board presence later on.
Her two champion cards are Lux Illuminated, a beefy unit when you play a spell with a high cost, and Lux Crownguard, who ramps you to be able to play huge spells much earlier into the game. With both of these, you can support her playing huge spells to keep control of the game with extra support to both reach the endgame and survive through it.
Lux seems to be the closest to a 'tap-out control' deck in Riftbound, and is great if you like traditional control strategies in other card games. She's light on units, and plays great removal that can sweep multiple or singular units on a battlefield if need be.
Lux Signature Cards
Lux's legend, Lady of Luminosity, lets you draw a card every time you play a spell that costs 5 or more. This is great hand sustain, and means that you'll always be fuelled to be able to take on your opponents' boardstate. Cards like Final Spark and Singularity become even better, and Unchecked Power is huge value if used correctly.
Final Spark is a simple removal spell, but it can deal with most units in the game. Except for huge Body/Fury bodies like Volibear, it's a universal answer to most good units and can be used exceptionally well throughout the game to be able to keep control of the game (it also reads Draw a Card, due to her legend).
Lux Staple Cards and Synergies
Lux's staple cards are mainly huge removal spells like Falling Comet and Singularity, that can unconditionally kill units and keep control of the boardstate with zero setup needed. These removal spells may seem expensive, but they're incredibly potent if used correctly, and all draw an extra card.
Later in the game, cards like Recruit the Vanguard and Shen Kinkou can win the game, once your opponent has been exhausted out of cards and resources and it's free to attack battlefields. Ekko Recurrent is able to be a constant threat too in the late-game, as he recycles himself meaning that he'll never leave your deck.
