Lee Sin Champion Spotlight – Overview, Strategy, and Cards

The Blind Monk has arrived in Riftbound. Find out how to play Lee Sin here.

A master of Ionia's ancient martial arts, Lee Sin is a principled fighter who channels the essence of the dragon spirit to face any challenge. Though he lost his sight many years ago, the warrior-monk has devoted his life to protecting his homeland against any who would dare upset its sacred balance. Enemies who underestimate his meditative demeanor will endure his fabled burning fists and blazing roundhouse kicks.

One of League of Legends's most furious brawlers, Lee Sin, has arrived in Riftbound. Arriving with Origins, Lee Sin is a Calm and Body champion based around the Buff mechanic, signalling that he'll want to be a midrange-ish unit-based strategy with the ability to disrupt until he gets to a point where he can start playing big Body spells.

His champion card, Lee Sin Ascetic allows him to receive any number of buffs, letting him bypass the one-buff limit. He can also build himself up in your base, letting him continue to receive buffs until he's big enough to be unstoppable. Otherwise, though, his champion is a solid 5 Energy Cost for a 5 Might unit, with the Shield mechanic to give him extra defensive capabilities in the event that he needs to hold down a battlefield alone.

Lee Sin definitely feels like he's going to be wanting to play a small number of units that all have relevant effects, and to buff them to be able to keep them around. Calm has the ability to grow singular units and rewards you when that unit is alone, and so playing around with that will work to your advantage.

Lee Sin's signature cards are vastly different, but perfectly indicate how you want to be playing the deck. Blind Monk is a way to buff a friendly unit each turn, letting you grow your board and take advantage of Lee Sin Ascentic's abilities.

On the other hand, Dragon's Rage, Lee Sin's Signature Spell, is a way to remove two units with equal might, or remove an enemy unit with lesser might than another from play. This is an interesting card, as it's weaker in practice than a board wipe, but the ability to move a unit makes it incredibly versatile, even if the raw power is weaker than other cards.

Lee Sin is all about applying buffs, and so cards that buff your units are going to be incredibly strong for keeping as many buffs on him as possible. Stand United is a great card with Lee Sin Ascetic as it essentially doubles every buff on him for the turn, making him massive and essentially unable to be killed in combat.

We haven't seen much of his cardpool, otherwise, so keep an eye out to see what else Lee Sin has access to in Riftbound as we get more spoilers for Origins over the coming weeks!
