Claimed by the Void when she was only a child, Kai'Sa managed to survive through sheer tenacity and strength of will. Her experiences have made her a deadly hunter and, to some, the harbinger of a future they would rather not live to see. Having entered into an uneasy symbiosis with a living Void carapace, the time will soon come when she must decide whether to forgive those mortals who would call her a monster, and defeat the coming darkness together… or simply to forget, as the Void consumes the world that left her behind.
Overview
The daughter of the void, Kai'Sa, joined Riftbound through its first set, Origins, as a Fury and Mind legend. Overall, Kai'Sa combines two arsenal of cards mixing very well with each other. Indeed, Fury cards will typically represent the proactive part of the deck, while Mind will feature more support, or situational tools.
This legend essentially allows you to keep a rune you should have recycled every turn, only to cast a spell. At first, one could see this ability as limited, and a design forcing OGN-247 to plan her whole game plan around playing spells. Actually, quite the opposite happens during a match.
Most of the best spells in the game to seize early tempo will have a power-cost attached to them. OGN-029, OGN-009, SFD-023 all require you to recycle a rune or two, unless you are Kai'Sa.
Through skipping that cost, the Daughter of the Void is able to play those powerful spells, and still have her units available on curve. With any other legend, playing OGN-029 on turn two or three would equal recycling the runes you channeled for that turn. With OGN-247, you still get to play OGN-116 on curve.
Spiritforged Kai'sa Decks
Kai'Sa won the third Regional tournament in China, which naturally prompted that deck to become the new standard for the legend. However, OGN-248 still had not been impacted by its errata at the time.
Some players like to keep one copy available even though we now have to announce all the damage at once. Otherwise, you can play Kai'Sa without her signature spell.
Kai'Sa Signature Cards
After a dominant showing during the Origins set, OGN-039 remains a fantastic unit in Spiritforged, played in most Fury decks. Ironically, Kai'Sa is the legend using its champion unit the least, including just one copy in the chosen champion slot, while most other legends will run it three times to make sure she shows up early in a match.
Unfortunately, OGN-112 suffers from the opposite fortune, and is completely absent from competitive play. The card is an interesting prospect from a value standpoint, but doesn't fit the control play style of most Mind legends. Indeed, those tend to not care about their score, instead focusing on limiting their opponent's ability to draw.
Last, OGN-248 used to be a staple in every Kai'Sa deck, but the card lost of lot of appeal following the change to reflexive triggers. Lately, OGN-105 replaced it as the default big removal in Kai'Sa decks.
Kai'Sa Staple Cards and Synergies
In the Spiritforged metagame, Kai'Sa has been building towards a control-heavy play style, aimed at removing units through spells rather than entering showdowns. Not only the Daughter of the Void is excellent at it due to their ability, this is also a great way to combat Draven, the top performer in Spiritforged.
The new Gold Gear Mechanic now combines with her ability to alleviate even more power costs, keeping her runes intact while she keeps the board clean. In that context, Kai'Sa is able to conquer with disposable units such as OGN-096 or OGN-087, included for their ability more than their fighting abilities.
As time passes and Kai'Sa keeps playing without losing runes, more impactful cards will be used, such as OGN-105, OGN-114 or OGN-116. If the opponent runs out of resources, or fails to seize back a battlefield, OGN-122 will close the match before they can recover.
