Claimed by the Void when she was only a child, Kai'Sa managed to survive through sheer tenacity and strength of will. Her experiences have made her a deadly hunter and, to some, the harbinger of a future they would rather not live to see. Having entered into an uneasy symbiosis with a living Void carapace, the time will soon come when she must decide whether to forgive those mortals who would call her a monster, and defeat the coming darkness together… or simply to forget, as the Void consumes the world that left her behind.
The daughter of the void, Kai'Sa, joined Riftbound through its first set, Origins, as a Fury and Mind legend.
Overall, Kai'Sa combines two arsenal of cards mixing very well with each other. Indeed, Fury cards will typically represent the proactive part of the deck, while Mind will feature more support, or situational tools.
This legend essentially lets you have an additional Rune every turn that can only be used to cast a spell. At first, one could see this ability as limited, and a design forcing OGN-247 to plan her whole game plan around playing spells. Actually, quite the opposite happens during match.
Indeed, the mix of Fury and Mind allows Kai'sa to have access to a flurry of solid 1-cost spells to cast. OGN-004, OGN-009 or OGN-095 to name a few, all have the ability to impact the board state.
Then, with those cheap spells you don't have to account for in your rune usage, OGN-247 can spend her real runes into developing units instead. Plus, it also means this legend is able to play certain units on curve, and still have a rune available to protect it if needed, or at least turn a removal into a channelled rune with OGN-104

Kai'Sa Signature Cards
Except for a counter card from a Calm opponent, OGN-248 is a powerhouse of a sweeper, dealing 2 damage six times distributed among opposing units, and can even deal 12 damage all to the same one if you wanted. With this, even though its cost is massive, it's flexible and can definitely turn the tide of the game.
Most decks play one or two copies, as the spell will be a menace to any opponent without any runes available to mitigate the impact of OGN-248 to their board.
OGN-039 isn't just a strong champion unit, it might be the best in Riftbound's first set. First, the fact we don't have to recycle a rune is huge compared to most 4-costs (OGS-010, OGN-115, OGN-238, OGN-240, OGN-246) as it means we won't suffer any tempo loss when playing it.
Then, OGN-039 is a must remove card, as its ability to draw upon conquering a battlefield means OGN-247 will happily support it with cheap spells during showdown, and still keep a large hand.
As a result, OGN-112 unfortunately doesn't see much play at the moment. The card isn't bad, but simply suffers from other cards being stronger in the mid-game among Fury and Mind possible picks. OGN-027 in particular, has emerged to be a mid-game machine most Fury legends play in multiple copies.
Kai'Sa Staple Cards and Synergies
Just like any Mind deck, you want to keep OGN-122 in mind, but that card isn't a key synergy, as OGN-247 is more than able to out-value its opponent.
Then, the card at the helm of a strong Kai'sa deck will be those allowing to build and hold the lead :
- Strong early units
- Cost-effective removals
- Card draw.
OGN-103 was designed to be a superstar alongside OGN-247, and it is. Indeed, the 2-cost is constantly growing to 3 or 4 might once in a showdown, beating every other unit in the early stages of a match. OGN-103 is also a nightmare to remove without being forced to overshoot it to avoid a spell getting it out of range.
OGN-029 is quite pricey, but just like OGN-248 has the ability to swing the board state and set an easy conquest for Kai'sa. Typically, the card won't be played early in the match due to its Power cost, but there are other cards for that. However, once the game is on the line with both players are closing in on their last point, the ability to deal 6 damage for just two energy cost is massive.
This card will remove most 5 or 6-cost units in the game.
Last, Kai'sa needs to draw quite a lot in order to support her play style based on using cheap spells to keep her opponent trailing. Already, OGN-039 is a fantastic card in that regard, while OGN-280 and OGN-292 also help a ton.
Yet, the legend can't get enough of those cheap utility cards with a draw attached to them. I used OGN-087 as an example, but OGN-095 or OGN-096 are just as important.
