An apex predator, Rek'Sai is a merciless Void-spawn that tunnels beneath the ground to ambush and devour unsuspecting prey. Her insatiable hunger has laid waste to entire regions of the once-great empire of Shurima—merchants, traders, even armed caravans, will go hundreds of miles out of their way to avoid her and her offspring's hunting grounds. All know that once Rek'Sai is seen on the horizon, death from below is all but guaranteed.
Even if it managed to be in the competitive discussion at various moments of the Origins metagame, OGN-253 didn't shine compared to most other Fury legends. Arguably, only the Fury - Body did worse than the Fury - Order pair, meaning Rek'Sai had a tall order in this new set.
The Fury domain is fantastic when it comes to conquering battlefields. The Assault keyword, damage based removals, or simply great midrange units, there are plenty of cards fit to support this legend's ability. The Order domain isn't so bad either, with OGN-213 and OGN-209 representing one of the best removal tandem in Riftbound.
However, if we spend our runes to support our conquests, how can we pay for the cards we reveal with Rek'Sai's ability?
This is the riddle one has to solve, as not playing any of the revealed cards does nothing but share information with our opponent. Sure, we also learned which cards we will draw next, but an opponent with a great memory might be able to figure out our entire hand after a bit. Plus, if we don't play those cards, we basically have no legend ability.
Spiritforged Rek'Sai Deck
Rek'Sai Signature Cards
SFD-029 is a solid card, but doesn't see much play, eclipsed by other 3-costs such as SFD-113, SFD-140 or SFD-149 so far in Spiritforged. So far, Rek'Sai plays one copy as its Champion Unit while SFD-170 is nowhere to be seen. Unfortunately, the 5-cost's ability is pale in comparison of SFD-188, the real star among Rek'Sai signature cards.
The spell can whiff at times when used early, but otherwise allows playing one of the top two cards of our deck while drawing the other for the mere cost of recycling a rune.
In the later stages of a match, the signature spell guarantees Rek'Sai can fetch in its deck for more options to pick from. Right now, it seems the deck mostly needs to improve its raw power to compare to other Fury legends, but the extra reliably is always welcomed.
Rek'Sai Staple Cards and Synergies
So far, Rek'Sai seems like she is still trying to right balance. There is a good amount of cards designed to help us play at a fast pace, through gaining energy, ready our units, or alleviate power-costs. SFD-175 really is the card that separates Rek'Sai from other Fury legends also pushing for an aggressive midrange play style. Otherwise, we'll find the usual Fury suspects when it comes to developing proactively:
- OGN-012, OGN-027 and OGN-021 form a great trio for any deck able to play multiple cards per turn, which Rek'Sai does very well through her ability.
- SFD-026 does not have many mechs to summon in the build, but still represents another potential burst of tempo.
- Support cards, be it buffs or removals are also cheap, with most costing 2 energy. They will both help with playing several cards in a turn, or setup a conquest while allowing to keep runes reade to use our ability.
