Ezreal, Prodigal Explorer Guide – Best Decks & Cards

Your guide to Ezreal, Prodigal Explorer Legend in Riftbound TCG: Overview of its meta status, sample decks, cards, and synergies.

A dashing adventurer, unknowingly gifted in the magical arts, Ezreal raids long-lost catacombs, tangles with ancient curses, and overcomes seemingly impossible odds with ease. His courage and bravado knowing no bounds, he prefers to improvise his way out of any situation, relying partially on his wits, but mostly on his mystical Shuriman gauntlet, which he uses to unleash devastating arcane blasts. One thing is for sure—whenever Ezreal is around, trouble isn't too far behind. Or ahead. Probably everywhere.

Play Style

Ezreal plays to be as annoying as can be, disrupting the opponent every way possible. The Prodigal Explorer knows it won't ever run out of cards due to its legend's ability. Thus, if he can stall the match and get it to an impasse, Ezreal is certain to win, as the opponent will eventually run out of cards to play.

To do so, Ezreal relies on a large kit of removal cards, alongside units with a powerful disruptive ability. This leads to a fairly weak presence on the board, but it doesn't matter as long as the opponent can't develop their units.

Once in the later stages of the match, Ezreal will become a nightmare to go against. Indeed, UNL-121 will discard anything the opponent keeps in hand, while the deck packs a spell to answer any type of unit they would get on the board.

Combined with OGN-181, Ezreal creates a situation where the opponent is not allowed to have anything in hand, while the Prodigal Explorer can return cards to their hand to generate as much value as they wish.

Key Cards

UNL-121, SFD-140 and OGN-181 are the trio granting the deck almost infinite value or disruption. If Ezreal can get to the point where it can spend its runes to play either unit, bounce it back in hand and repeat every turn, the opponent is stuck in an infinite loop that results in a long, painful defeat.

Reaching that point is the trickier part, as opponent as well aware they are playing against the clock. Thus, it is crucial to find the right balance of removals to keep the opponent at bay.

OGN-095, SFD-080, OGN-183 and UNL-128 are the spells you cannot remove from the deck. The first three will help dig through your deck, as bad turns are Ezreal's worth enemy. The fourth serves to handle large threats, while bouncing our 3-cost units back to our hand to keep leveraging their ability.

In that mix, UNL-150 and OGN-116 are too formidable not to include. Indeed, the Chaos 4-cost dominates when in a holding position, while the 7-cost Mind unit remains one of the most effective ways to conquer late in a match.

Competitive Status

Except for a disappointing performance in Utrecht, Ezreal has been extremely consistent during the Unleashed set, making it to the top 32 seven times, with two top 8 finishes among those. With a top 4 using a list only Ezreal can make work, the legend showed it still possess a unique and competitive play style.

Diana is absolutely the best Chaos - Mind legend in Riftbound, and likely the best overall choice to win a tournament in Unleashed. However, Ezreal is both competitive and different enough to offer a second choice within that domain combination.
